Bude Beach of the Year
Bude has been named one of the UK’s most celebrated coastal destinations, but there’s more to discover beyond the beach. Just minutes from the Atlantic, Little Pig Wellness offers a slower side of North Cornwall, where sauna, countryside stays and simple rituals invite you to pause, breathe and reset.
When people think about North Cornwall, they often picture the coastline first.
Wide beaches, atlantic surf and salt on the breeze.
And they’re right to.
Recently, Bude was recognised as The Sunday Times Beach of the Year 2026, not simply because of its beautiful coastline, but because of something much harder to create: a place with a genuine sense of community, where the landscape is cared for and life continues long after the summer visitors have gone.
It’s something we’ve always loved about living here.
Bude has never tried to become somewhere else.
It hasn’t chased trends or reinvented itself to fit the latest idea of a coastal destination. Instead, it has quietly evolved, shaped by the people who call it home.
That slower rhythm is what makes this corner of Cornwall feel so different.
Beyond the Beach
Of course, Summerleaze Beach deserves every bit of recognition.
The sea pool, the beach huts, the walk along the canal and the Atlantic stretching endlessly towards the horizon.
But one of the best things about staying here is discovering what happens when you wander just a little further inland.
Just a few minutes from the coast, the pace begins to change.
The sound of the waves is replaced by birdsong.
The air feels softer.
The horizon opens.
It’s here, between Bude and Kilkhampton, that you’ll find Little Pig.
Not on the beach.
Close enough to enjoy everything the coastline offers, yet tucked away in the countryside where mornings begin a little more gently.
A Different Kind of Day
Some guests spend the morning surfing before returning for the warmth of the sauna.
Others begin with breakfast in the café before settling into the rhythm of heat, cold water and quiet conversation.
Some stay for a couple of hours.
Others stay for a few days.
There isn’t really a right way to experience Little Pig.
That’s part of the point.
The Luxury of Slowing Down
We’re often asked what makes Little Pig different.
It isn’t one single thing.
It’s the combination.
The warmth of the sauna.
The clarity that follows a cold plunge.
A good coffee afterwards.
Open skies overhead.
Grass connecting the lodges, café and wellness spaces.
And beyond that, views across the North Cornwall countryside.
Simple things, perhaps.
But increasingly rare.
In a world that asks us to move faster, there is something quietly luxurious about having nowhere else you need to be.
A Place That Feels Lived In
One of the things we admired most about the recognition Bude received was the emphasis on community.
It wasn’t awarded because of big hotel developments or grand attractions.
It was recognised because people care.
They care for the beaches.
For the sea.
For local businesses.
For one another.
That spirit is something we’re proud to be part of.
Little Pig has grown slowly over the last few years.
From café to lodges.
From sauna to wellness destination.
Not through rapid expansion, but through listening, learning and creating somewhere people genuinely enjoy returning to.
Your North Cornwall Story
No two visits here look quite the same.
Perhaps it’s an early morning swim before breakfast.
Perhaps it’s an afternoon spent moving between warmth and cold water.
Perhaps it’s simply sitting outside with a coffee, watching the light change across the countryside before heading down to the coast for sunset.
Whatever draws you here, we hope you leave with more than photographs.
We hope you leave feeling lighter.
And perhaps with a reason to come back.
Because the best places are rarely the ones you visit just once.
